Vic Tesolin

From Rough To Ready
We don’t all have huge shops full of machines to break down lumber into smaller chunks that will become furniture components. The truth is that getting boards 6-square (flat and square in all directions) at the bench with hand tools is not really that hard. Like any other technique in woodworking, you just have to learn the steps like anything else. Vic will take you through the process and show you all the tricks to making short work out of taking boards from rough to ready.
Three Simple Finishes
One of the most feared techniques in woodworking is finishing. You’ve spent all that time getting your project built and the thought of messing it up with a bad finish-job is scary. Vic will be talking about his three favorite finishes: shellac, oil and wax. He will talk about what they are, how to apply them and, he will explain where each type is best suited. Take the fear out of finishing.
Working on a Bench
The work bench is probably the most important tool in the workshop and like any other tool, it’s imperative that you understand how to use it. When working with hand tools, proper use of a bench is even more crucial for success. Because you are taking the tool to the work, keeping a grip on your components will be the difference between a relaxing experience and a frustrating one. Vic will take you through some of his favorite work holding fixtures and techniques, both store-bought and shop-made. He will also discuss optimal bench heights and the importance of a solid work surface.
