Rob Cosman has been woodworking for most of his life. While earning a B. Sc. in Industrial Technology/Furniture Design at Brigham Young University, he was the teaching assistant to renowned Dale Nish. Rob has also worked with many of the world’s best master craftsmen — including Alan Peters, Sam Maloof and Tage Frid. While he still does some custom work, most of his efforts are spent teaching his craft, Rob travels extensively demonstrating hand tool skills. In addition to his comprehensive line of instructional dvds he is also the host of two online training workshops. Hundreds of students around the world benefit from his daily instruction in either hand tool or combined hand and power tool furniture building. Rob’s time spent woodworking and teaching others to woodwork has led him to designing and building premium hand tools that are sold in woodworking stores around the world. He stands by his belief that good tools should be ready to use out-of-the-box! Rob and his wife Kim live in New Brunswick, Canada and are the parents of 10 happy children and one grandchild.
Jake Cosman got his woodworking start at the end of his Dad’s bench, as a little boy he’d be curled up in a ball napping! Over the years he has travelled with his father to help out at woodworking shows and along the way has picked up some of the necessary skills for good hand work. For the past year he has been behind the camera on both the hand tool workshop and the combined hand/power tool workshop. In these series, to better teach new skills, Jake doubles as the featured “apprentice”, working thru the hand skills as a real life student for his Dad the instructor. What he has learned thru his close camera coverage in the workshops has made him a valuable second pair of eyes on the 2 show. He often contributes to the problem solving process so akin to one-off furniture making. While he may not decide to become the next professional designer/craftsman, he for sure will be cutting his own dovetails.
